Dr Abdelhalim Babiker Mahmoud

About

Abdelhalim Babiker Mahmoud received his Bachelor degree in Pharmacy in 2008 and his Master degree in Clinical Pharmacy in 2012 from the University of Khartoum, Sudan. After working for some years in Pharmaceutical industry and academia, he moved to Basel, Switzerland, where he joined the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) to pursue his PhD.

His PhD entitled “Mining Sudanese Medicinal Plants for natural compounds against Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases”, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Pascal Mäser. During his PhD, he was also a visiting scientist at the Pharmaceutical biology group at the department of Pharmacy, University of Basel. He accomplished his PhD from the University of Basel in 2020.

In 2022, Dr. Mahmoud has been awarded the Alexander von Humboldt fellowship for postdoctoral research and joined the group of Prof. Rolf Müller at Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland.

Dr. Mahmoud’s research focuses on investigating new chemical entities from Myxobacteria for their activity against tropical parasitic diseases.
