Muhammad Usman
About
Muhammad Usman completed his M.Sc. in Bioinformatics at Saarland University, Germany, and holds a B.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore. He joined the Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland (HIPS) as a PhD researcher in 2026 and is affiliated with the research groups Clinical Bioinformatics and Synthetic Biology of Microbial Natural Products.
His research focuses on agentic artificial intelligence for the design and functional prediction of non-ribosomal peptide synthetases (NRPS). By integrating transformer-based models, graph learning, and automated decision-making workflows with experimental feedback, his work aims to accelerate and rationalize the discovery and optimization of natural product biosynthetic pathways.
