Dr Vidhisha Sonawane

About

Vidhisha completed her Bachelor's degree in Microbiology at the University of Pune, India, in 2018. She then pursued a Master's in Microbiology at Radboud University in The Netherlands, where she focused on drug discovery against non-tuberculous mycobacteria. Her master's research further explored trained immunity induced by Mycobacterium avium.

In 2020, Vidhisha began her PhD at the Research Center Borstel, Germany, under the supervision of PD Dr. Norbert Reiling. Her doctoral research, titled "Identification and Characterization of Antimicrobials against M. tuberculosis," concluded in 2024. During her PhD, she specialized in testing novel compounds against M. tuberculosis in a BSL-3 laboratory. Additionally, she employed CRISPRi, a cutting-edge gene-editing technique, to validate the molecular targets of these antimicrobials.

Vidhisha joined HIPS in December 2024, where her primary research focus is on drug development of novel microbial natural products using microfluidics FACS, and other advanced techniques for drug discovery. She will also continue working further on Tuberculosis drug discovery and MoA studies.
