About
Dr. Jiteshkumar P. Deore is a Helmholtz Global Fellow in the Synthetic Biology of Microbial Natural Products group at HIPS, Germany. He obtained his PhD in Organic Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, where he worked on photocatalysis, nanomaterial-based catalysis, and synthetic methodology development. He subsequently conducted postdoctoral research in California, USA, specializing in asymmetric photo-organocatalysis and working on stereoselective transformations of complex and highly strained molecular systems.
At HIPS, his research lies at the interface of drug design, synthetic biology, genetic and enzyme engineering, and peptide chemistry. His work combines biosynthetic gene clusters, NRPS engineering, genetic code expansion, solid-phase peptide synthesis, and photochemistry to discover, design, synthesize, and characterize new bioactive molecules with therapeutic potential. A key objective is to genetically engineer and light-stabilize non-ribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS) systems to create programmable mega-enzyme platforms for the rapid synthesis of complex bioactive molecules, including new antibiotic candidates.
