Dr Diletta Bergamo

About

Dr. Diletta Bergamo received her Master´s degree with honors in Pharmacy from the University of Padova (Italy) in 2020. Her thesis focused on the synthesis of anticancer small molecules selectively targeting mitochondrial kinases. She subsequently pursued her doctoral studies at the University of Parma (Italy) and earned her PhD in 2024. Her research centered on the design and synthesis of antimicrobial peptidomimetic compounds, which mimic the structure of the natural antimicrobial peptide Magainin. During her PhD she had the opportunity to spend a research period at the University of Auckland (New Zealand), where she focused on the solid-phase synthesis of polymyxin B derivatives. She also conducted a research stay at the HIPS where she performed biological studies to elucidate the mechanism of action of previously synthesized peptidomimetic molecules. Afterward, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Neuroscience of the National Research Council (CNR-Padova), where her research focused on the synthesis and characterization of innovative chemical tools for real-time calcium imaging in organelles. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the Hirsch group, working on the synthesis of derivatives of the natural peptide corramycin. Her research aims to enhance the antimicrobial activity of these compounds and to contribute to elucidate their mode of action.
