Dr Carole Baumann
About
Carole Baumann (née Bertrand) is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Microbial Natural Products at the Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland (HIPS), where she contributes to the coordination of the fish facility and supports research activities.
She studied Biotechnology at the University of Nantes and Environmental Protection and Management at the Université Catholique de l’Ouest (Angers), developing an early interest in toxicology. She specialized in ecotoxicology at the University of Lorraine (Metz) and completed her PhD at the University of Nantes (2013–2016), investigating nanomaterials across salinity gradients in collaboration with MMS (Nantes–Angers) and LIEC (CNRS 7360, Metz).
After a postdoctoral position at the University of Lorraine, she joined Eurofins Agroscience Services Ecotox GmbH as Study Director (2017–2022), taking responsibility for study coordination, scientific oversight, and project management in GLP-compliant ecotoxicological research. She also worked for six months at Eurofins PHAST GmbH (Homburg/Saar) as a technician in GMP-compliant pharmaceutical quality control and testing.
At HIPS since 2022, she is responsible for establishing and optimizing experimental systems using zebrafish larvae as toxicity and infection models, and contributes to the technical operations and organization of the fish facility.
