Dr Mervic Dongock Kagho
About
Mervic studied Chemistry at the University of Yaoundé 1, Cameroon, where he obtained both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees. After completing his Master's, he was awarded a DAAD research grant to pursue his PhD in Germany, which he completed in September 2022 at the Technical University of Braunschweig under Prof. Dr. Philipp Klahn, following the passing of his initial supervisor, Prof. Dr. Klaus Banert. His doctoral research focused on the synthesis and biological evaluation of complex cytochalasans and Nitraria alkaloids.
He then held a postdoctoral position in the KlahnLab at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, from November 2022 to November 2024, where he contributed to the development of bioresponsive pseudoglucosinolates for protein labeling and cytochalasan-based strategies to study actin polymerization and inhibit cancer cell metastasis. For a brief period from October to December 2025, he was a postdoctoral researcher in the Prof. Dr. Marc Nazaré Group at FMP Berlin. Since January 2026, he has been with the Prof. Dr. Martin Empting Research Group at HIPS Saarbrücken, developing novel antiviral agents against RSV and gamma-herpesviruses.
