Chengcheng Sun studied Vine and Wine Engineering as a bachelor student at Shandong Agricultural University in China. From September 2019 she started her master study related to metabolic engineering and synthetic biology at Jiangnan University. Since October 2022, she came to Technical University of Dresden and started her PhD with Prof. Tobias Gulder. Since March 2025, she continues her PhD research at the department of Natural Product Biotechnology at HIPS.

Her master research focused on heterologous expression and metabolic engineering regulation in Saccharomyces cerevisiae to increase the production of flavonoids under the supervision of Prof. Jingwen Zhou (Jiangnan University). Now she is working on the discovery and mechanistic elucidation of novel furanolide natural products.
