Ana Filipa Matos studied Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Faculty of Pharmacy from University of Lisbon, Portugal. During the final semester of her studies, she joined the Biofabrication Group at i3S under the supervision of Prof. Rúben Pereira and Prof. Sandra Simões. Her thesis focused on correlating 3D bioprinted skin models with ex vivo skin.

Since November 2023, she has been a PhD student at the University of Urbino Carlo Bo, Italy. Her research focuses on optimizing the manufacturing techniques of topical and transdermal drug delivery systems. She has now joined the Department of Drug Delivery Across Biological Barriers from Prof. Claus-Michael Lehr, as part of her research period abroad to work on smart wound dressings for infected wounds.
