About

Komal is a doctoral student at Department of Drug Delivery, HIPS and Department of Inner Medicine V, Saarland University Hospital (UKS). She conferred her Master’s degree with honors from Moscow institute of Physics and Technology in Medical Biotechnology. Her masters research was to generate non-small cell lung cancer organoids and to check their morphology, cell composition and gene expression of cytochrome gene. She is a winner of Open Doors Russian Olympiad 2020 in track of Biology and Biotechnology. Her recent scientific endeavors are to check the impact of lung microbiome on epithelial cell biology in preclinical models. Her project involves Investigation of the interaction between lung microbiota, epithelial cells, pathogens, and commensals using bioprinting and 3D-cultures of alveolar and airway epithelia. This study's bioprinting approach will allow for the controlled examination of microbiota-epithelial cell interactions and will serve as a platform for medication screening. The findings of this study will help to discover new treatments for respiratory diseases.
