Anna Kastner studied pharmacy at the University of Würzburg and graduated as a pharmacist in 2022. During her educational time, Anna joined Prof. Elín S. Ólafsdóttir’s working group at the University of Iceland for six months to focus on natural products from plants. In February 2023 Anna started her PhD at Prof. Dr. Rolf Müller’s group at HIPS.

As her PhD projects Anna is going to try to establish some metagenomics workflow as the first step of isolation of new Myxobacteria from soil samples. There will also be further research on different cultivation methods such as elicitor screening or co-cultivation and the resulting changes in secondary metabolites, which will be obtained by using spectrometric methods.
