About

Kamal studied pharmacy in Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran from 2005 to 2011. The topic of his thesis was synthesis of novel hydrazone derivatives with antimycobacterial activity under the supervision of Prof. Farzad Kobarfard. In 2014, he joined the group of Prof. Nathaniel Martin in Leiden University to work on the development of novel inhibitors of bacterial metallo-β-lactamases. He obtained his PhD degree in December 2020 and moved to Saarbrücken in March 2021 to join Prof. Müller’s group as a postdoctoral researcher. Currently, his research involves a combination of genetic engineering and semisynthesis approaches to generate new analogs of antimicrobial natural products such as myxovalargin and argyrin.
