Aylin Berwanger

About

Aylin studied chemistry at Saarland University. In summer 2018, she completed her Bachelor's thesis in Prof Martin Empting's group. From then on, she worked as a student assistant in the working group alongside her Master's degree. In 2020 she completed her Master's thesis with Prof Martin Empting. She has been a PhD student in the research group since 2021. Her focus is on the synthesis of new anti-herpesviral agents. In particular, the interaction of the viral DNA with the latency-associated nuclear antigen (LANA) of the Kaposi sarcoma herpesvirus (KSHV) is to be inhibited. The concept of proteolysis targeting chimera (PROTAC) will also be applied. The development of a new active substance against KSHV is particularly important for immunocompromised people, such as AIDS patients, as co-infection is usually fatal.
