About

Mary Victory Gutierrez obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biology at Saint Louis University, Baguio City, Philippines.  She completed her Masterate degree at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines with focus on Allelopathic effects of allelochemicals.  She is currently affiliated with Far Eastern University of Manila (FEU) where she devotes her time working as an academician and a researcher.  She pursued her Doctoral at De La Salle University of Manila, Philippines as a recipient of K-12 CHED scholarship from the Commission on Higher Education of Philippine Government.  She was awarded with a research grant by FEU giving her the opportunity to work on her passion on Myxobacterial Research at Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland and conducts her dissertation for her PhD.

Her study aims to isolate, characterize, and identify myxobacteria from organic substrates that include rice straws and leaf litters and establish their phylogenetic relationships. Moreso, she aim to investigate their genomic and metabolic potential as source of novel natural products. Her preliminary research investigations on the occurrence of Myxobacteria has indicated the presence of Chrondromyces species hence this  molecular study can unearth the potential of the underexplored biosynthetic gene pathways of these Philippine myxobacteria which would contribute to the mitigation of antibiotic resistance crisis in the Philippines.
