Maria Braun Cornejo


Maria studied Chemistry at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) with an exchange year at the University of Cambridge. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in 2019 and complemented her studies at UAM graduating with a Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry. During these studies she carried out research in the fields of medicinal chemistry and organocatalysis.

In December 2020 Maria started working as a PhD student in the MepAnti ITN, tackling the antimicrobial resistance by targeting the MEP pathway. More specifically, her role is designing, and synthesizing inhibitors of the enzymes IspE and IspF. She is based at Specs in the Netherlands and joined Prof. Anna Hirsch’s group at HIPS for a 5-month long secondment.
