Dr Walter Hofer

Walter studied Molecular Life Science at the Friedrich-Alexander University in Erlangen/Nuremberg from 2009-2014. In his master’s thesis, he investigated prodrugs for cancer therapy. He obtained his PhD at the Max-Planck-Institute for Molecular Physiology in Dortmund under the supervision of Prof. Waldmann in June 2018, focusing on chemistry and chemical biology. Since April 2019, he is a postdoctoral researcher at the department of Microbial Natural Products of Prof. Müller.
Walter is interested in finding and synthesizing biologically active compounds. In his project, he applies semisynthesis to enhance the potency and delivery of a new type of antibacterial and antimalarial natural product.
