Dr Fabian Kern

About

Dr. Fabian Kern studied Bioinformatics with an emphasis on Computer Science and methodology as an undergraduate (Bachelor of Science) at Saarland University, and then successfully finished his Master of Science with distinction (Honor’s degree) at the Center for Bioinformatics located on campus. Subsequently, he started as a PhD student in the Medical Faculty of Saarland University working in the group Clinical Bioinformatics headed by Prof. Dr. Andreas Keller. During the time as a doctoral student, he contributed to more than 30 peer-reviewed research articles and completed numerous scientific collaborations with both national and international institutions. In late 2021 he finished his PhD (Dr. rer. nat.) in Natural Sciences and Medicine with distinction (summa cum laude) and a dissertation entitled “Algorithms and Applications for non-coding RNAs in Aging”. Since spring 2022 he heads a Junior Research Group at the HIPS working on new bioinformatics approaches and methods to aid infection research and anti-infective development using spatially and temporally resolved RNA-sequencing, especially at the single-cell level.
