About

Anna-Lena Huber studied pharmacy at the University of the Saarland in Saarbrücken. She completed her master's thesis in 2019 at the HIPS in the department of Microbial Natural Products of Prof. Dr. Rolf Müller. After her successful approbation in 2019, she remained in the Department of Microbial Natural Products as a PhD student.

Anna-Lena´s research focusses in the development of alternative methods to identify and characterize novel bioactive secondary metabolites. At this, co-cultivation approaches, as well as mixed solid/liquid cultivation strategies are applied. These methods are used to achieve both, the activation of possible silent gene clusters in soil-living bacteria and the identification of novel bioactive natural compounds. New promising candidate compounds shall subsequently be purified and structure-elucidated using spectroscopic methods.
